Starting a gas turbine requires a burst of high‑pressure air to drive the compressor through a pneumatic starter until the engine can sustain itself on fuel. That air is supplied by the bleed air system, which provides conditioned air from the engine’s own compressor stages (or an auxiliary source such as an APU) to the starting device.
